If you have farm financial data in an Excel (.xls or .xlsx) file and need to upload it to FarmRaise Tracks, you must first convert it to a CSV file. Follow the steps below to properly format and export your file as a CSV.

Important Notes Before Exporting

  • CSV (Comma-Separated Values) files are the only supported format for bulk imports.

  • Excel (.xls or .xlsx), PDFs, and Apple Numbers (.numbers) files will not work.

  • Ensure your data is properly formatted before exporting. Remove extra spaces, special characters, or formatting that may interfere with the CSV structure.

How to Export an Excel File as a CSV

  1. Open Your Excel File

    • Locate and open the spreadsheet you want to convert.

  2. Check Your Data

    • Ensure each column contains only relevant data (e.g., Date, Description, Amount).

    • Remove any unnecessary formatting, formulas, or blank spaces.

  3. Click "File" in the Menu Bar

    • If using Windows, go to File > Save As

    • If using Mac, go to File > Export

  4. Choose "CSV" as the File Format

    • Select CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (*.csv) as the file type.

    • If CSV UTF-8 is not available, choose CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv).

  5. Save the File

    • Choose a location on your computer where you can easily find the file.

    • Click Save.

  6. Verify the File Format

    • Open the saved file in a text editor (e.g., Notepad or TextEdit).

    • Ensure data is separated by commas (,) and not by tabs or other symbols.

  7. Upload to FarmRaise Tracks

    • Navigate to the bulk import section in FarmRaise Tracks.

    • Select your newly saved CSV file and follow the upload instructions.

Troubleshooting CSV Export Issues

Problem: My CSV file is not formatted correctly.

  • Open the CSV file in a text editor and check for incorrect separators. If needed, try re-saving the file using CSV UTF-8 format.

Problem: My file still won’t upload.

  • Ensure your data is structured properly (e.g., no merged cells, hidden characters, or special formatting).

Problem: I don’t see the CSV option when saving.

  • If your version of Excel does not show CSV, try using "Save As" and manually typing .csv at the end of the file name.
