If you need to contact the IRS to request an official document to confirm your business information, follow the steps below:

  1. Call +1 (800)829-4933. You can reach the IRS Business and Specialty Tax line Monday-Friday between 7am and 7pm local time (or Pacific time if you live in Hawaii or Alaska).

  2. If you are having trouble getting hold of the IRS try calling between 7am and 10am or between 3pm and 7pm. Avoid calling on Monday (their busiest day).

  3. Select your preferred language (press 1 for English).

  4. Press 1 for EIN "Employer Identification Numbers."

  5. You can press 3 if you have an EIN but cannot remember it. Your call will be connected to an IRS agent. There may be a delay depending on the time and day.

  6. Tell the IRS agent that you need an EIN Verification Letter (147C).

  7. To ensure that you are the business owner or have the authority to be the agent, the agent will ask you a few security questions.

  8. You'll be asked to choose between receiving your 147C letter by mail or fax once you successfully answer all the security questions. You will receive your 147C immediately by fax if you choose the latter.

  9. The IRS can only send you the letter by mail or secure fax.
