How to Take a Screenshot on an iPhone

Method 1: Using the Side Button and Volume Up Button (iPhone X and Later)

  1. Locate the Buttons

    • Identify the Side button on the right side of your iPhone.

    • Identify the Volume Up button on the left side of your iPhone.

  2. Press the Buttons Simultaneously

    • Quickly press and release the Side button and the Volume Up button at the same time.

    • The screen will flash white, and you will hear a camera shutter sound if your sound is enabled.

  3. View and Edit the Screenshot

    • A thumbnail of the screenshot will appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

    • Tap the thumbnail to edit, share, or delete the screenshot.

    • If you do nothing, the screenshot will be saved to your Photos app.

Method 2: Using the Side Button and Home Button (iPhone 8 and Earlier)

  1. Locate the Buttons

    • Identify the Side button (or Top button on older models) on the right or top side of your iPhone.

    • Identify the Home button below the screen.

  2. Press the Buttons Simultaneously

    • Quickly press and release the Side (or Top) button and the Home button at the same time.

    • The screen will flash white, and you will hear a camera shutter sound if your sound is enabled.

  3. View and Edit the Screenshot

    • A thumbnail of the screenshot will appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

    • Tap the thumbnail to edit, share, or delete the screenshot.

    • If you do nothing, the screenshot will be saved to your Photos app.

Method 3: Using AssistiveTouch

  1. Enable AssistiveTouch

    • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch.

    • Toggle AssistiveTouch to On. A floating button will appear on your screen.

  2. Take a Screenshot with AssistiveTouch

    • Tap the AssistiveTouch button.

    • Select Device > More > Screenshot.

    • The screen will flash white, and you will hear a camera shutter sound if your sound is enabled.

  3. View and Edit the Screenshot

    • A thumbnail of the screenshot will appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

    • Tap the thumbnail to edit, share, or delete the screenshot.

    • If you do nothing, the screenshot will be saved to your Photos app.

Method 4: Using Siri (iOS 14 and Later)

  1. Activate Siri

    • Press and hold the Side button (or Home button on older models) or say "Hey Siri" if enabled.

  2. Ask Siri to Take a Screenshot

    • Say, "Take a screenshot."

    • The screen will flash white, and you will hear a camera shutter sound if your sound is enabled.

  3. View and Edit the Screenshot

    • A thumbnail of the screenshot will appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

    • Tap the thumbnail to edit, share, or delete the screenshot.

    • If you do nothing, the screenshot will be saved to your Photos app.
